CARES was founded in 1989 for the purpose of:

• teaching students basic information about alcohol and other drugs
  
• refer to appropriate services if alcohol/other drugs become a problem
  
• assisting those students in recovery
  
• presenting programs to groups, organizations, and academic classes
  
• providing suggestions on how to maintain a low-risk healthy lifestyle
  
• assisting those being affected by the drinking or other drug use of another person
